HORNBILL GOLF COURSE

A true golfing paradise for avid golfers with its brilliantly designed 18-hole course laid over the highland plateau with a year round temperate climate, offering the most daunting challenge to test the skills of both amateur and professional golfers.

The course was designed by Neil Crafter to reflect the natural features and contours of its unique highland location. This allows the golfer to play amidst breathtakingly beautiful jungle sceneries. It offers a unique experience of 'Golfing in the Clouds'. Imagine teeing off above the trees and putting in the mist and you will get the picture of the experience that awaits you. The highland climate adds to the unique golfing experience.

The Hornbill Golf and Jungle Club course is ideally suited to the golfer who seeks a fresh challenge every time he plays. Its 6,249 metres length is magnified by the steep gradients of the rugged mountain terrain, to make it as much a physical golfing challenge as a mental one.

The Hornbill Golf & Jungle Club was launched by Tiger Woods on 18th November 1999 during the World Cup Golf at Mines Resort & Golf Club, and received instant worldwide acclaim, as one of the top class, unique, exotic and fascinating courses in the world. Play here just once and you will want to return again and again for the ultimate test of your golfing skills, on a course that is breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreakingly tough.

18-Hole Course
Featured Holes

Hole 1 Par 4 (363 metres)

Your round begins with this gem of a par 4, playing over a small pond on the left onto a valley-like fairway limed by natural rock boulders on both sides. From the landing area, the hole veers left and climbs uphill to a mildly undulating green. Stay out of the two deep greenside bunkers and par should not be a problem.

Hole 6 Par 4 (286 metres)

Breathtaking is the first word that comes to mind when describing this short par 4. The bunker-riddled fairway is an incredible 50 metres below the highest of the multi-level tees. While the shortest par 4 on the course, there is precious little room for error as jungle lines both sides of the landing area. It may be a good idea to leave the driver in the bag although adventurous long hitters may attempt to reach the green from the tees. The broad but shallow green slopes against play and is guarded by a bunker on its front left edge.

Hole 9 Par 4 (344 metres)

This must be one of the most unique holes in Malaysian golf. There are no bunkers from tee to green. Instead, obstacles to par abound in the form of boulders of various shapes and sizes on and along the fairway, looking like huge mushrooms after a shower. Make sure your tee shot avoids the huge boulder on the right just in front of the ladies tees. The heavily undulating fairway drops down in tiers and is bisected by a stony creek just before the green. Talk about a rocky finish to the first nine!

Hole 13 Par 5 (512 metres)

From the tees, the only visible hazard is a bunker on the left of the landing area. However, long hitters should take note that the tall tee on the left marks where grass ends and a pond begins. After a good drive, the second shot should easily clear the creek and buggy track which cut across plat, leaving a short approach to the well-bunkered green. Bear in mind that the creek cuts across again about 10 metres from the green.

Hole 15 Par 4 (425 metres)

Index is one for this long par 4 and thoroughly deserved. The drive must be directed left to avoid the creek which cuts across play from the right about 150 metres from the green and exits at about the 50 metres mark on the left. If you are not accurate with your driver, leave the big stick in the bag and go with an iron and difficult approach to the heavily undulating green, perched snugly on a ledge and trapped by two deep bunkers on the left. Par has to be really earned here.

Hole 18 Par 5 (504 metres)

This panoramic par 5 is tailor-made for exciting finishes. The wide landing area invites you to go for distance from the elevated tees, favouring a leftist line to cut the corner of this mild dogleg left as much as possible. A good drive will leave you with two options for the second shot - to go for broke over the river ravine which slices the fairway just before the greensite and hope for two-one or to lay up with a short iron and pitch on over the ravine. The diagonally angled green slopes severely against play and from right to left, so club up if in doubt and aim right of the flag.

Vast comfort awaits guests in each of the Clubhouse?s charming 47 rooms and 9 suites, located on 4 separate floors. Each unit provides spectacular views of the beautifully gardens and surrounding rainforest.

Take note that there are minimal modern facilities are in place. This is a deliberate attempt to ensure that guests break away from the regular luxurious lifestyles and disassociate themselves from stress, freeing the mind to concentrate on pure relaxation.

Club Room

The charming Club Room is a comfortable room providing only the basic necessities with a common bathroom in every floor.

Gold Room

The Gold Room is a more luxurious version of the Club Room, which overlooks the spectacular Hornbill Golf Course. Each unit comes with attached bathroom and toilet facilities.

Par Suite

The Par Suites are located on the top floor of the Clubhouse. Slightly larger than the Gold Room, each unit comes with separate shower room and toilet. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains during the day and marvelous glowing city lights at night.

Junior Suite

The Junior Suites are ideal for newlyweds or couples looking for privacy. The suites come with attached bathroom facilities. Each unit is tastefully decorated with exotic native furniture and decorations, with earthly tones embracing you with warmth and comfort.

Suite

The Senior Suites offer the ultimate luxurious comfort, privacy and exclusivity. Being the largest accommodation in the Clubhouse, each unit comes with separate showers and bathtubs. Jungle Trekking

Venture into the depths of the 2nd oldest rainforest by embarking on this jungle trek to "Batu Panggah" with our experienced guides. Take time to appreciate the many varieties of flora and fauna. And remember to ask about the legend of "Batu Panggah."

Mountain Climbing

The more adventurous and outdoor sports enthusiast can trek to the top of Mount Penrissen and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the rainforest, mountain sceneries and Borneo Highlands Resort. Mount Penrissen is the highest peak in Kuching - 4,138 feet.

Camp put under the stars in the Borneo rainforest. 5 foundation blocks have been constructed for campers to pitch their tents on. Kalimantan Border Lookout Point

Take a morning walk to the Kalimantan Border Lookout Point and enjoy breathtaking sceneries. At 3,281 feet above sea level, you will stand above the clouds and witness the timeless beauty. If you are lucky enough, you might catch a flock of hornbills flying by through the valley. Do remember to make a wish when you do.

Flower Gardens

At Borneo Highlands Resort, you will be awed by the beauty of the colourful and never-ending blossom. The "Colours of Spring" of the Flower Garden is bound to enthrall you. Then Flower Garden consists of the Rose Garden, Vertical Garden and Landscape Garden.
